About Stac nam Bodach
This high, rounded heathery dome stands within the vast Forest of Atholl, north of Blair Atholl. While often overlooked for the neighbouring Beinn a' Ghlò massif, it provides an excellent vantage point over the lower reaches of Glen Tilt and the sprawling, peat-hued plateau of the eastern Grampians.

Did You Know?
- •The name Stac nam Bodach translates from Scottish Gaelic as the 'Stack of the Old Men'. In Highland folklore, a bodach can refer to an old man, but also a spectral figure or a 'bogie', suggesting a landscape once viewed with a degree of superstitious caution.
- •The hill is situated in the heart of the Atholl Estate, a historic deer forest. It is frequently bypassed by walkers heading for the Munro Carn Liath, but its position makes it a useful waypoint for those navigating the high ground between Glen Tilt and the Beinn a' Ghlò range.
- •From the summit, the view to the east is dominated by the steep, scree-covered flanks of Carn Liath, while to the west, the eye follows the long, straight cut of Glen Tilt towards the remote southern heights of the Cairngorms.
- •Despite the name suggesting a 'stack' or pinnacle, any walker expecting a dramatic Alpine spire will be disappointed by what is, in reality, a very large and very soft heathery lump.
