About Ruragh
Rising above the northern shores of Loch Arkaig, this Lochaber Tump offers a quiet alternative to its more famous neighbours. Its rugged, heathery slopes provide a grandstand view across the Arkaig forest toward the Grey Corries, and west into the jagged, complex ridges of the Knoydart wilderness.

Did You Know?
- •The name is likely a simplification of the Gaelic Ruighe, meaning a hillside or a summer shieling site, reflecting the hill's history as seasonal grazing land.
- •Looking south from the summit, walkers are treated to a massive panorama of the Ben Nevis massif and the Aonach Mòr ridges rising beyond the waters of Loch Arkaig.
- •To the west, the hill provides an excellent perspective on the 'Rough Bounds', with the sharp, distinctive peak of Sgùrr na Cìche visible on the horizon.
- •The surrounding glen was a primary training ground for Allied Commandos during the Second World War, chosen for its exceptionally difficult and trackless terrain.
- •Being classified only as a Tump, Ruragh is the perfect destination for those who find the crowds on Ben Nevis across the glen a little too sociable.
