Did You Know?

  • The name is derived from the Gaelic 'Meall Coire na Saobhaidhe', meaning the hill of the corrie of the fox's den, likely referring to the rocky crevices in the corrie below.
  • It serves as a secondary summit to its parent Munro, Beinn Bhrotain, and is typically reached via a high-level traverse between the two peaks across a boulder-strewn col.
  • The view from the summit is dominated by the massive bulk of Cairn Toul and Sgor an Lochain Uaine, standing tall across the deep, glacial trench of the Geusachan Burn.
  • Accessing this hill requires one of the longest approaches in the Cairngorms, usually involving a lengthy cycle or trek through the Mar Lodge Estate from the Linn of Dee.
  • While the name promises a fox's den, at 973 metres you are far more likely to encounter a ptarmigan or a lost walker wondering why they didn't take the direct route back to the glen.
