Did You Know?
- •The name Maol Odhar is Gaelic, where 'Maol' refers to a rounded, treeless hill and 'Odhar' means dun or sallow, describing the muted colour of the upland grasses in late autumn.
- •It sits on the periphery of the great Ben More massif; while many head straight for the main Munro summit, this top offers a quieter spot to appreciate the scale of the nearby A’ Chìoch ridge.
- •To the north, the view is dominated by the sprawling waters of Loch na Keal and the spectacular basalt cliffs of the Gribun coast.
- •The terrain consists of ancient volcanic rock, part of the Mull Supervolcano, which explains the sharp, blocky nature of the higher ground and the tiered 'trap' landscape of the surrounding glens.
- •It is the kind of summit that is frequently claimed by accident by walkers who have drifted off the main path and are looking for a dignified way to describe their detour.
