About Little Pap
Sitting on the eastern shoulder of the Lochnagar massif, this rounded Munro Top offers a distinctive perspective of the great northern corrie. While often bypassed on the circuit from Glen Muick, its bouldery summit provides an intimate look at the sheer cliffs of the Meikle Pap and the dark waters of the lochan below.

Did You Know?
- •Its Gaelic name is Cuidhe Mheadhonach, which translates as the 'middle wreath' or 'middle enclosure'. This refers to the way snow accumulates and lingers in the shallow hollows of the plateau, often forming distinctive white patches seen from the glens below well into the spring.
- •Though often overlooked in favour of the main Lochnagar summit, the top provides one of the best angles for viewing the 200-metre vertical precipices of the northern corrie and the serrated ridge of the Meikle Pap.
- •The summit serves as a quiet vantage point for looking east across the Mounth towards Mount Keen, Scotland's most easterly Munro, and the rolling expanse of the Queen’s Balmoral Estate.
- •Despite being designated as a 'Little' top, its height of 957 metres makes it significantly taller than any mountain found in England, Wales, or Ireland, a fact often lost on those rushing past it to bag the main peak.
