About Larig Hill
Rising above the eastern banks of the River Spey near Grantown, this rounded moorland summit forms part of the scenic Cromdale Hills. The terrain is dominated by deep heather and peat, offering a wilder feel than its modest height suggests. From the trig point, the expansive Cairngorm plateau dominates the southern horizon.

Did You Know?
- •The name likely derives from the Gaelic 'làirig', meaning a pass, referring to the hill’s position overlooking the high ground between Strathspey and the Glenlivet estate.
- •It is often climbed as part of a traverse of the Cromdale ridge, usually paired with Creagan a’ Chaise, which is topped by a massive stone cairn built to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee.
- •From the summit, walkers can trace the winding course of the River Spey and look directly across to the northern corries of the Cairngorms, with a particularly clear view of the prominent Bynack More.
- •Despite its status as a Hump, the dense heather and occasional peat hags ensure that every one of its 545 metres feels thoroughly earned by the time you reach the trig pillar.
