About Knock Hill
Rising above the Sleat peninsula, this Marilyn offers a manageable but rewarding ascent away from the crowded Cuillin. The terrain is typically Skye—boggy in parts with heather-clad slopes. From its 430m summit, walkers are treated to exceptional views across the Sound of Sleat toward the rugged peaks of Knoydart.

Did You Know?
- •The name is a simple anglicisation of the Gaelic word 'Cnoc', meaning hill or knoll. In many local records, it is referred to as Cnoc an t-Sìthein, which translates as 'Hill of the Fairies', a name often given to prominent, rounded hills believed to be dwellings of the AOS Sìth.
- •The summit provides a distinct vantage point for the 'Rough Bounds' of the Scottish mainland; on a clear day, the massive bulk of Ladhar Bheinn and the pointed peak of Sgùrr na Cìche are clearly visible across the water.
- •Because it is classified as a Marilyn—a hill with at least 150 metres of prominence—this modest peak feels significantly higher than its 430m elevation suggests, as it commands the skyline of southern Skye.
- •It remains one of the few summits on the Isle of Skye where you can enjoy an expansive sea view without having to share the experience with a dozen other walking parties.
