Did You Know?
- •The name translates from Gaelic as ‘Big White Hill’, likely referencing the pale stones on its summit or its habit of retaining snow well into the spring.
- •Much of the ascent follows the Burma Road, a steep estate track built shortly after World War II that provides a remarkably efficient, if lung-busting, route into the high moors.
- •From the summit cairn, the view across the Strathspey is one of the best for appreciating the scale of the Cairngorm plateau, specifically the deep gash of the Lairig Ghru and the cliffs of Braeriach.
- •While the climb is functionally simple on a clear day, the broad, featureless plateau is notorious for its lack of landmarks; in a 'whiteout', the Big White Hill can become very disorienting indeed.
