Did You Know?
- •The English name is a curious interpretation of the Gaelic Creag nan Gobhar; while it is widely known to hillwalkers as Eagle's Rock, a literal translation is actually 'Rock of the Goats'.
- •It is usually reached via a long approach from the Linn of Dee near Braemar, followed by a steady climb onto the Beinn Bhrotain massif, often bagged alongside its parent peak to complete a high-altitude circuit.
- •The summit offers one of the best perspectives of the Lairig Ghru's southern end, providing a clear view of the massive granite bulk of Braeriach and the jagged silhouette of Cairn Toul across the glen.
- •Despite the name, you are statistically more likely to encounter a stray red deer or a ptarmigan in its winter plumage than the eponymous bird of prey on this particular pile of stones.
