About Creag a' Lain
Situated on the northern spine of the Trotternish Ridge, this 608m summit offers a quieter alternative to Skye’s more crowded landmarks. Its grassy western slopes contrast with dramatic eastern cliffs, providing expansive views across the Sound of Raasay towards the Torridon mountains and the distant Outer Hebrides.

Did You Know?
- •The Gaelic name Creag a' Lain translates as 'Rock of the Enclosure,' likely referring to the natural corries and hidden hollows formed by the massive Trotternish landslip that characterizes this part of Skye.
- •It is a prominent waypoint on the Trotternish Ridge traverse, a legendary 23-mile trek that follows the basalt escarpment from Flodigarry down to Portree.
- •The summit provides an excellent vantage point to see the neighbouring peak of Beinn Edra to the north and the jagged, slipped landscape of the Quiraing in the distance.
- •At 608.6 metres (1,997 feet), it missed out on becoming a Graham by less than a metre, a fact that earns it little sympathy from those slogging up its steep western flank.
