Did You Know?
- •The name is derived from the Scottish Gaelic Cnoc Reamhar, which translates literally as 'Fat Hill' or 'Thick Hill,' a description of its broad, rounded profile compared to the sharp granite ridges nearby.
- •The summit offers an excellent vantage point over the Kilbrannan Sound to the Kintyre peninsula, allowing walkers to trace the coastline from the Mull of Kintyre north toward Saddell.
- •The hill overlooks the prehistoric landscape of Machrie Moor; its position makes it a prominent landmark when viewed from the site of the famous Neolithic standing stones and stone circles below.
- •Despite its modest height of 266 metres, its topographical isolation gives it enough prominence to be classified as a Marilyn, a status it shares with much higher peaks like Goatfell.
- •On an island where the northern skyline is dominated by jagged, needle-like peaks, Cnoc Reamhar is arguably the most honestly named hill on Arran; it is unashamedly a broad, heather-clad hump.
