Did You Know?
- •The name refers to the hill's proximity to the ruins of Crawford Castle, also known as Tower Lindsay, a strategic stronghold that guarded the primary route into the Clyde Valley for centuries.
- •From the summit, the view is dominated by the distinctive, flat-topped profile of Tinto Hill to the north and the sprawling mass of Culter Fell to the east.
- •It is commonly climbed in tandem with neighbouring Arbory Hill, which features a remarkably well-preserved Iron Age hillfort consisting of three concentric earthen ramparts.
- •The hill overlooks the 'Crawford Gap,' a narrow natural corridor through the Southern Uplands that has been used by Roman legionaries, 18th-century mail coaches, and modern motorway traffic.
- •It provides one of the few places in Scotland where you can enjoy a genuine sense of upland isolation while simultaneously monitoring the progress of the lorries grinding their way south toward the border.
