About Carn Ghluasaid
Rising steeply above Loch Cluanie, this Munro marks the eastern gateway to the high plateau above Glen Shiel. While its southern slopes are punishingly direct, the summit rewards with a vast, stony vantage point overlooking the neighbouring Sgùrr nan Conbhairean and the long, dark waters of the glen below.

Did You Know?
- •The name translates from Scottish Gaelic as the 'Hill of Movement'. This is widely thought to refer to the unstable, shifting scree found on its steep southern faces, which contrasts with the more solid plateau above.
- •It is most frequently climbed as the first peak in a popular three-Munro circuit, typically paired with Sgùrr nan Conbhairean and Sail Chaoruinn starting from the A87.
- •The summit provides an exceptional viewpoint for the South Shiel Ridge; on a clear day, the jagged profile of The Saddle and the sharp crest of the Forcan Ridge are clearly visible to the west.
- •The hill is a classic example of the 'truncated' peaks found in the North West Highlands, where the gentle northern slopes drop away into dramatic, glaciated crags and steep grass on the southern side.
- •While the climb from the roadside is relentless, the summit plateau is so broad and level that it can feel like a different mountain entirely—provided you can find the actual high point amidst the sprawling stones.
