Carn a' Chuilinn Far East Top

Rising above the Great Glen near Fort Augustus, this high, rounded shoulder sits on the sprawling Monadhliath plateau. It offers a wild landscape of heather and peat, typical of the range, providing a sense of immense isolation and expansive views across the northern Grampians toward the distant peaks of Strathfarrar.

• •The name Carn a' Chuilinn translates from Gaelic as the 'Cairn of the Holly', a name likely referring to the vegetation found in the sheltered glens below rather than on this exposed, high-altitude plateau.
• •This summit is frequently visited as an eastern extension to the parent Corbett, Carn a' Chuilinn, offering a fine vantage point over the Corrieyairack Pass and General Wade’s 18th-century military road.
• •The view from the top is particularly notable for its perspective of Loch Ness, providing a clear sightline down the Great Glen toward the distinctive profile of Meall Fuar-mhonaidh.
• •Navigating this section of the Monadhliath involves a certain level of strategic hop-scotch, as the terrain consists largely of ancient peat hags designed to test the limits of any waterproof lining.
