Did You Know?

  • Standing as the highest point within the Aberdeen city boundary, the summit is marked by a trig pillar and a large telecommunications transmitter that is visible for miles across the lowlands of the northeast.
  • The hill is a designated Marilyn, a status it earns because its summit drops at least 150 metres on all sides before rising again, despite its relatively modest total elevation of 266 metres.
  • Views from the top are exceptionally clear on a crisp day, offering a bird's-eye view of the city's harbour and the North Sea, alongside the peaks of the Mounth and the distant Cairngorm plateau.
  • The ascent is often made via the narrow access road or the well-trodden paths from Kingswells and Westhill, making it one of the most frequented short walks for residents of the Granite City.
  • It is perhaps the only summit in the region where the sound of the wind is occasionally drowned out by the roar of a helicopter ferrying workers to the North Sea oil rigs.
