About Bodnasparet

Overlooking the eastern reaches of Glen Quoich near Braemar, this heathery Tump serves as a rugged sentinel to the high Cairngorm massif. While often overlooked for the neighbouring Munros, it provides an intimate perspective of the vast south-facing corries of Beinn a’ Bhuird and the winding Quoich Water.

Did You Know?

  • The name likely derives from the Gaelic 'Bod na Spairte', where 'Bod' refers to a prominent rock or 'stump' and 'spairt' can mean a clod of earth or a patch; it likely describes a specific rocky outcrop on its slopes.
  • The summit offers an exceptional, relatively low-level view of 'The Sneck', the distinctive high pass that sits between the massive plateaus of Beinn a' Bhuird and Ben Avon.
  • Situated on the historic Mar Lodge Estate, the hill's lower slopes are part of a significant landscape recovery project aimed at regenerating the ancient Caledonian pine forest.
  • At exactly 2,222 feet, the height is remarkably easy to remember, which is more than can be said for the optimal line through the surrounding peat hags.
