About Biod an Fhithich

Overlooking the head of Loch Duich, this steep-sided Graham offers one of the most rewarding effort-to-view ratios in Kintail. While often bypassed for the higher peaks, its airy crest provides a spectacular, unobstructed grandstand for the jagged Forcan Ridge and the sprawling waters of the Atlantic coast.

You are walking on Morar Group rock, which began as ancient layers of sand. Over time, these were compressed into the hard, grainy foundation beneath your feet.

Did You Know?

  • The name is Gaelic for 'Peak of the Raven,' a title that reflects its sharp, soaring character and the carrion birds often seen riding the thermals above the steep northern corries.
  • The summit offers what many consider to be the finest perspective of The Saddle; from here, the full, intimidating profile of the Forcan Ridge is laid bare for walkers to study.
  • Most walkers approach the hill from the top of the Mam Ratagan pass, a starting point that significantly reduces the total ascent and allows for a quick, high-impact walk.
  • From the cairn, the view to the west is exceptional, stretching past the Five Sisters of Kintail to the Cuillin of Skye and the distinctive silhouette of the Sgùrr of Eigg on the horizon.
  • It is a favoured 'bad weather' alternative for the area—low enough to occasionally sit beneath the cloud base when the surrounding Munros are completely lost to the mist.
