About Ben Glas

Rising steeply above the head of Glen Falloch near Crianlarich, this rugged Tump offers a quiet vantage point away from the crowded neighbouring Munros. Its steep, grassy slopes lead to a summit with an earned view of the massive profiles of Ben More and the shapely peak of An Caisteal.

Did You Know?

  • The name is derived from the Scottish Gaelic 'Beinn Glas', which translates to 'Green Hill' or 'Grey-green Hill', a reference to the grassy vegetation that covers its slopes in contrast to the rockier summits nearby.
  • The summit provides a focused perspective of the deep trough of Glen Falloch and the West Highland Way as it snakes its way south toward the banks of Loch Lomond.
  • This hill overlooks the historic Drovers Inn at Inverarnan, a famous Highland waypoint that has been providing shelter and ale to travellers since 1705.
  • It is often overlooked in favour of its much taller namesake, the Munro Beinn Ghlas, which is located significantly further east on the Ben Lawers range.
  • Climbing Ben Glas offers the unique satisfaction of looking down upon the hundreds of West Highland Way walkers below, most of whom are far too preoccupied with their heavy packs to look up.
