Beinn na Socaich

Tucked away on a southern spur of the Grey Corries, this Munro Top offers a quieter alternative to the main ridge's shattered quartzite crest. Most often reached via the Lairig Leacach, its broad slopes provide a contrasting perspective of the nearby Aonach Beag and the rugged Mamores range to the south.

• •The name is derived from the Gaelic 'Beinn na Socaich', meaning 'Mountain of the Snout' or 'Pointed Hill', likely referring to its prominent position jutting south from the main massif.
• •It serves as a subsidiary summit to the Munro Stob Coire an Laoigh; bagging it usually requires a dedicated detour from the high-level traverse of the Grey Corries ridge.
• •The summit offers an exceptional, close-up view of the massive eastern crags of Aonach Mòr and Aonach Beag, which look far more formidable from here than they do from the Glen Nevis side.
• •Unlike the stark, white quartzite scree that defines the main Grey Corries peaks, the southern flanks of this hill are significantly greener and easier on the feet.
• •Standing at over 1,000 metres, it is taller than many famous Munros, yet its lack of 'independence' from its parent peak keeps it firmly relegated to the list of Munro Tops.
