About Beinn Mholach

Rising above the northern shores of Loch Errochty, this rounded Corbett offers a sense of deep isolation away from the busier Drumochter passes. Its broad, heathery slopes lead to a spacious summit where the view of Schiehallion’s iconic profile across the glen is particularly striking and feels well-earned after the remote approach.

Did You Know?

  • The name translates from Scottish Gaelic as the 'Shaggy Mountain', a reference to the thick, coarse heather and rough vegetation that blankets its lower slopes.
  • Situated in the remote hinterland between Loch Rannoch and the A9, the summit provides an unusual perspective of Schiehallion, revealing its broad western flank rather than the familiar symmetrical cone seen from the east.
  • From the trig point, the view northwest across the dark waters of Loch Ericht towards the remote peaks of the Ben Alder forest is one of the most expansive and wild panoramas in the central Highlands.
  • Despite being a Corbett of significant stature and a Marilyn, it is frequently overlooked by walkers rushing toward the Munros at Dalnaspidal, meaning you are more likely to share the summit with a golden plover than another human.
