About Beinn Aoidhdailean

Situated in the rugged hinterland between Glen Elchaig and Loch Long, this remote Tump offers a quiet alternative to the nearby Kintail giants. The terrain is characteristically rough, with heathery slopes leading to a broad summit that provides an expansive vista across the complex ridges of the Northwest Highlands.

Did You Know?

  • The name is Gaelic in origin, likely Beinn Aoidh-dhail-ean, which translates as the 'hill of the meadow of Hugh', or possibly 'hill of the little meadow by the isthmus'.
  • Most walkers approach the hill from the small settlement of Killilan to the north or Camus-luinie to the west, following glen tracks before striking out across pathless, often sodden moorland.
  • The summit offers a unique perspective of the Five Sisters of Kintail to the south and the sharp, coastal profile of Sgùrr nan Airgid rising above Loch Duich.
  • Its classification as a Tump—a hill with at least thirty metres of prominence—ensures that any attempt to combine it with neighbouring peaks involves a mandatory and character-building descent into the surrounding bogs.
