Beinn an Eoin North Top

Sitting within the rugged heart of the Flowerdale Forest, this high sandstone ridge provides a quieter alternative to the famous Torridon giants. Its tiered, rocky slopes offer a classic North West Highland experience, overlooking the deep waters of Loch Maree and the sprawling, uninhabited wastes of the Fisherfield Forest to the north.

• •The name is derived from the Gaelic 'Beinn an Eoin', translating as 'Mountain of the Birds', likely a reference to the golden eagles that frequent the remote crags of the Letterewe and Flowerdale estates.
• •The summit is often visited as part of a long, undulating traverse from the main southern peak, providing a vantage point that looks directly down onto the shimmering, island-studded expanse of Fionn Loch.
• •The hill is composed of ancient Torridonian sandstone; the characteristic horizontal terracing on its flanks was carved out by glacial action during the last ice age.
• •From this northern top, walkers gain a particularly clear view of the jagged 'Big Six' peaks of the Fisherfield wilderness, including the formidable silhouettes of A' Mhaighdean and Ruadh Stac Mor.
• •Despite the name, a walker is statistically much more likely to be greeted by a persistent Highland midge than a golden eagle if they choose a windless day for their ascent.
