About Longridge Fell - Spire Hill
Rising as a prominent, tree-clad whaleback above the Ribble Valley, Spire Hill marks the highest point of Longridge Fell. While much of the ridge is carpeted in commercial forestry, the summit offers an airy vantage point marked by a trig pillar, looking directly across to the iconic silhouette of Pendle Hill.

Did You Know?
- •The name is purely descriptive of the fell’s seven-mile-long sandstone ridge, while 'Spire Hill' identifies the apex of this long, narrow plateau.
- •From the summit trig point, the view north across the Hodder Valley reveals the dramatic gritstone fells of the Forest of Bowland, including Fair Snape Fell and Parlick.
- •The fell's southern slopes were extensively planted with conifers by the Forestry Commission in the mid-20th century, creating a stark contrast with the open moorland found at the summit.
- •Its isolated position makes it one of the most recognisable landmarks for those travelling through the Ribble Valley or visiting the nearby historic village of Ribchester.
- •Navigating the dense forest tracks on the southern slope is an excellent way to test your compass skills, mostly because the trees are so thick you won't see a landmark for forty minutes.
