Leacainn

Rising to 527 metres above the north shore of Loch Fyne, this modest Dodd overlooks the former industrial village of Furnace in Argyll. The hill's wooded lower slopes give way to rougher ground higher up, with the summit offering views across Scotland's longest sea loch towards the hills of Cowal.

• •The name Leacainn derives from Scottish Gaelic meaning 'hillside' or 'slope', describing the hill's character as it rises steeply from the lochside. The village below was originally known as Inverleacainn, meaning 'mouth of the Leacainn burn'.
• •The village of Furnace at the hill's base once supported over 200 stone-cutters alone during its industrial heyday, when an iron furnace, gunpowder mills, and quarries operated here. Today the entire population barely exceeds that number.
• •From the summit, walkers look directly down onto Loch Fyne, the longest sea loch in the United Kingdom at over 40 miles in length, with the Cowal peninsula rising beyond its waters.
