Kirkhope Law

Rising to 537 metres in the Manor Hills south of Peebles, this grassy summit overlooks the Tweed Valley and the edge of Cardrona Forest. The ascent is straightforward, with open hillside typical of the Southern Uplands. A Dodd and Donald Dewey, it's often climbed alongside neighbouring Manor Hills tops in a longer ridge walk.

• •The name combines 'kirk' (Scots for church) with 'hope', an Old English word for a small enclosed valley or remote upland hollow, suggesting either a church once stood in the valley below or that the hill overlooked such an ecclesiastical site.
• •The hill sits at the eastern end of the Manor Hills range, which takes its name from the Manor Water valley running through the former royal hunting forest of Ettrick.
• •From the summit, the view north extends across the Tweed Valley to the Moorfoot Hills, while Dollar Law, the highest of the Manor Hills at 817 metres, dominates the skyline to the southwest.
