Eilrig

A modest Dodd rising above the slopes north of Loch Rannoch in the Central Highlands. The hill sits in forested terrain that characterises much of this wooded landscape, where commercial plantations blend with remnants of native Caledonian pine. At 552 metres, it offers a quiet alternative to the larger Munros dominating the skyline further north.

• •The name Eilrig derives from Scottish Gaelic 'Eileireag', meaning 'a trap' or 'snare', likely referring to a deer trap or hunting enclosure that once stood on these slopes when this land was actively managed for stalking.
• •The hill sits within sight of Schiehallion to the east, one of Scotland's most distinctive peaks, whose perfect cone shape was used in the 1774 Maskelyne experiment to estimate the mass of the Earth.
