Cruach

A modest Dodd rising to 514 metres in the Trossachs area, positioned between Loch Katrine and Loch Venachar. The summit offers an accessible outing with woodland lower down giving way to open hillside, and views across the knot of lochs and glens that characterise this corner of the southern Highlands.

• •The name derives from Gaelic 'cruach', meaning stack or heap, a common descriptive term for rounded or conical hills throughout the Scottish Highlands.
• •Positioned on the southern fringe of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, this hill occupies classic Rob Roy MacGregor territory, with the outlaw's stamping grounds extending across the hills and glens immediately to the north.
• •The summit grid reference places it almost exactly midway between Callander to the east and the head of Loch Katrine to the west, making it a useful viewpoint for orienting yourself among the tangle of Trossachs peaks and waters.
