Craig Law

Perched in the eastern Moffat Hills, this grassy Dodd rises to 514 metres above the upper Annan valley. The summit offers a convenient vantage point over the surrounding moorland plateau, with wider views taking in the higher ridges of Hart Fell and White Coomb to the west. Typically climbed from the Annandale side on quiet, pathless slopes.

• •The name 'Craig Law' combines the Scots 'craig' meaning crag or rocky outcrop with 'law', derived from Old English 'hlaw' meaning a rounded hill or burial mound, suggesting this summit may have been notable for both its rocky features and its dome-like profile when viewed from the valley below.
• •Despite its modest height, Craig Law marks the eastern edge of the Moffat Hills proper, standing sentinel over the transition from upland moorland to the gentler pastoral landscapes of Annandale.
• •The hill is often ascended alongside its near neighbour Garelet Dod to the southwest, the two forming a straightforward ridge walk across the quieter, less-frequented eastern flank of the range.
