Carn Moraig

A modest forested hill rising above Loch Moraig, northeast of Blair Atholl in the Central Highlands. The summit at 569 metres sits amid plantation woodland, limiting views but offering a quiet ascent through the trees. The neighbouring loch below was created by damming a former snipe marsh.

• •The name derives from Gaelic 'Càrn Mòraig', meaning 'cairn of Moraig', taking its name from the loch immediately below which was once a natural snipe marsh before being dammed to create the current water body.
• •Loch Moraig beneath the hill was artificially created by damming the southern end of what had been a wetland habitat favoured by snipe, transforming the landscape from marsh to open water.
• •The hill sits within the extensive Blair Atholl estate lands, where commercial forestry now dominates the lower and middle slopes, a common fate for many smaller Perthshire hills in the 20th century.
