Cairn Gibbs

Rising to 521 metres in the Ochil Hills north of Dunfermline, this modest summit offers a quiet alternative to the more popular peaks along the range. The approach typically follows good tracks through moorland terrain, with the summit cairn providing views across the Forth valley and towards the higher Ochils to the west.

• •The name 'Gibbs' likely derives from the Scots word 'gib', meaning a projecting rock or nose of land, describing the hill's profile when viewed from certain approaches.
• •Cairn Gibbs forms part of the eastern Ochil Hills, a range formed from volcanic rocks dating to the Devonian period around 400 million years ago, creating the distinctive steep southern scarp that characterises the entire range.
• •The summit is often climbed in conjunction with neighbouring King's Seat Hill and Andrew Gannel Hill, forming a satisfying eastern circuit of the Ochils that can be completed from Tillicoultry or Dollar.
