Beinn Fhada NW Top

A subsidiary summit on the long northwest ridge of Beinn Fhada in the western Highlands, this 563-metre top offers a quieter alternative to the main peak. The terrain is typical Highland ridgeline walking, with rocky outcrops and heather moorland. Listed as a Dodd and Tump, it rewards those who extend their traverse along the full length of this shapely mountain.

• •The name 'Beinn Fhada' comes from Scottish Gaelic meaning 'long mountain', a fitting description for a peak whose sprawling ridges extend for several kilometres, with this northwest top marking one extremity of that considerable length.
• •As a Dodd, this summit is one of the hills identified by surveyor and mountaineer Alan Dawson as having a prominence of at least 30 metres but less than the 150 metres required for Marilyn status.
• •The main summit of Beinn Fhada lies to the southeast, and hillwalkers tackling the full ridge traverse will cross this northwestern top as part of a longer expedition rather than as a destination in its own right.
