Am Binnein

A minor summit rising to 547 metres on the southern flanks of the Mamores ridge between Glen Nevis and Loch Leven. This modest outlier sits in the shadow of the higher Munros to the north, offering a quieter alternative with straightforward access from Kinlochleven. Views extend across Loch Leven to the hills of Glencoe.

• •The name derives from Scottish Gaelic 'Am Binnein', meaning 'the little peak' or 'the pinnacle', a diminutive form that distinguishes it from its far loftier neighbours Binnein Mòr and Binnein Beag on the main Mamores ridge.
• •Though dwarfed by the ten Munros of the Mamores range immediately to the north, this hill provides a useful viewpoint for studying the architecture of that celebrated horseshoe ridge without committing to the full traverse.
• •Kinlochleven, the nearest settlement to the south, was once home to the world's largest aluminium smelter, powered by hydro schemes in the surrounding glens that transformed the local landscape in the early 20th century.
• •The hill sits within walking distance of the West Highland Way, which passes through Kinlochleven en route from Fort William to Milngavie, making it accessible to long-distance walkers seeking a short diversion.
