Did You Know?

  • The name is derived from the Gaelic 'Glas Bheinn', meaning 'grey-green hill', a description of the specific hue of the grasses and mosses that cover its slopes compared to the darker heather of its neighbours.
  • The summit offers a clear perspective on the engineering of the Loch Quoich dam to the west, as well as an unobstructed view of the massive south-facing corries of Gleouraich and Spidean Mialach.
  • This area was historically significant as a junction for old droving routes before the mid-20th-century hydro-electric schemes flooded the glens and altered the traditional paths through the Rough Bounds.
  • It is one of many hills in the Highlands sharing the name Glas Bheinn; walkers should verify their map coordinates to ensure they haven't confused it with the nearly double-height Corbett of the same name in Assynt.
