Did You Know?

  • In Welsh, the name translates as 'The Wooded Slope' or 'The Hillside.' Though its upper reaches are now open pasture, the name points to the historical woodland that once dominated the steep flanks overlooking the river.
  • Its status as a Hump signifies a 'Hundred Metre Prominence,' meaning the hill drops at least 100 metres in all directions before the land rises again, marking it as a distinct local landmark.
  • The summit provides a direct line of sight to the Mynydd Epynt, a high plateau largely used as a military training area, and the prominent peak of Fan Frynych to the south.
  • For those looking to avoid the crowds of the central peaks, this hill is a quiet spot to watch the weather roll across the Usk valley, usually shared with nothing more than a few local sheep.
