Did You Know?

  • The name is Scottish Gaelic for 'Yellow Hill', a common descriptor in the Highlands for peaks where the autumn or winter grasses turn a distinctive pale ochre colour.
  • Located on the Knoydart peninsula, it is among the most remote Munros in Scotland, usually requiring either a long-distance trek from Kinloch Hourn or a ferry trip to the village of Inverie.
  • The summit acts as a superb vantage point for the Isle of Skye; on clear days, the entire jagged profile of the Black Cuillin is visible across the Sound of Sleat.
  • It is most frequently climbed as part of a demanding circuit alongside its eastern neighbour, Luinne Bheinn, a route known for its rough, trackless terrain and complex navigation.
  • While the name promises a 'Yellow Hill', most visitors find the dominant local colour palette actually consists of deep bog-brown and rain-cloud grey.
