About Glas Bheinn

Overlooking the narrows of Kyle Rhea from the Glenelg peninsula, this rugged Marilyn offers an exceptionally high reward for its modest height. The terrain is typical of the Northwest Highlands—rough heather and outcrops—providing a grandstand view of the Skye Bridge and the jagged Cuillin ridge across the water.

Did You Know?

  • The name is derived from the Gaelic Glas Bheinn, usually translated as 'Grey Hill' or 'Green-Grey Hill', referring to the muted tones of its rocky outcrops against the surrounding moorland.
  • Its position as a coastal Marilyn makes it an outstanding viewpoint for the narrows of Kyle Rhea, where the historic turntable ferry still crosses from Glenelg to Kylerhea on the Isle of Skye.
  • To the east, the horizon is dominated by the formidable peaks of the Five Sisters of Kintail, offering a clear perspective of the sheer scale of the mainland's higher Munros.
  • It is a classic 'bagger's' hill; significant enough to be classified as a Marilyn, yet short enough that you can be back in Glenelg before the weather has time to change its mind more than twice.
