Beinn Gharbh

A 539-metre summit standing above the remote northwest Highlands of Sutherland, positioned near the head of Loch Glencoul. The hill occupies rugged, wild terrain typical of this corner of Scotland, where few paths exist and navigation demands care. Its modest height belies the genuine mountain character of the landscape it inhabits.

• •The name Beinn Gharbh derives from Scottish Gaelic, meaning 'rough mountain' or 'rugged hill', a fitting description for terrain where broken ground and rocky outcrops characterise much of the approach and summit area.
• •The hill sits within one of Britain's most sparsely populated regions, where red deer vastly outnumber people and golden eagles patrol the glens with regularity.
• •Despite its modest classification as a Dodd and Tump, the summit offers views across to some of Sutherland's finest peaks, including the distinctive quartzite cap of Beinn Uidhe to the south and the sprawling ridges towards Quinag to the west.
