About Meall na Rainich
Rising to the north of Loch Turret, this rounded Perthshire moorland summit offers a quiet, heathery ascent often overlooked in favour of the nearby higher peaks. The ground is typically soft underfoot, but the reward is a clear, south-facing perspective over the reservoir and the distant, rolling Lowlands of Strathearn.

Did You Know?
- •The name is derived from the Scottish Gaelic Meall na Raineach, which translates as the 'rounded hill of the bracken', referring to the dense ferns found on its lower slopes.
- •Positioned above the northern shores of Loch Turret, the summit provides a grandstand view of the reservoir’s waters framed by the steep eastern flanks of Choinneachain Hill.
- •The hill is frequently climbed as a secondary objective during the circuit of the Loch Turret hills, serving as a quieter waypoint before the ascent to the higher Corbett, Auchnafree Hill.
- •Looking south-east from the top, the landscape opens up towards the Strathearn valley, where the prominent, wooded hump of Torlum Hill can be seen on the horizon near Crieff.
- •Despite the name, hikers are often more likely to encounter deep, water-retaining sphagnum moss than bracken on the high col to the north, which stays reliably boggy in all seasons.
