About East Mealour
Rising above the Braes of Glenalmond in Perthshire, this modest summit offers a quiet, heather-clad retreat from the busier Highlands. The terrain is classic moorland, often pathless and soft underfoot. From its rounded top, walkers are rewarded with focused views of the Sma’ Glen’s dramatic entrance and the distant Sidlaw Hills.

Did You Know?
- •The name is derived from the Scottish Gaelic Meall Odhar, meaning 'dun-coloured hill', referring to the brownish-grey hue the slopes take on when the heather is not in bloom.
- •It is typically climbed in tandem with its taller neighbour, West Mealour, which sits less than two kilometres to the west across a shallow, peaty col.
- •From the summit, the view west is dominated by the massive bulk of Ben Chonzie, providing a clear perspective of that mountain’s plateau-like eastern side.
- •To the north, the hill overlooks the deep trench of the Sma’ Glen, where the River Almond cuts a sharp path through the landscape of the Highland Boundary Fault.
- •The summit is more of a suggestion than a point, consisting of a modest cairn on a broad dome that offers absolutely nowhere to hide if the weather turns.
