The Vine

Tucked away in the eastern Ochils, this 507-metre grassy dome offers a quieter perspective than its more popular neighbors. It provides an excellent vantage point over the Devon Valley, with views stretching across the Firth of Forth to the Pentland Hills and north toward the rugged peaks of the southern Highlands.

• •The name is likely a corruption of the Gaelic 'Seilich', meaning willow. On older maps, the hill is occasionally referred to as Seilich Hill, though 'The Vine' has become the established name for the summit.
• •The hill is most commonly climbed as part of a circular route from Glen Sherup, often linked with the nearby summits of Innerdownie and Whitewisp Hill to create a high-level ridge walk above the local reservoir.
• •From the summit, walkers can clearly pick out the three Forth Bridges to the southeast, while looking north reveals the prominent profiles of Ben Vorlich and Stuc a' Chroin on the horizon.
• •Despite its name suggesting a landscape better suited to viticulture, the local flora consists almost entirely of hardy moorland grasses and damp mosses better adapted to the Scottish climate.
