About Stacan Dubha
Sitting as a subsidiary summit on the jagged north-east ridge of Mullach Fraoch-choire, this 1014-metre Munro Top offers a rugged, high-altitude experience. Its character is defined by the shattered 'black stacks' of rock that give it its name, providing a dramatic viewpoint overlooking the remote upper reaches of Glen Affric.

Did You Know?
- •The name is derived from the Scottish Gaelic for 'Black Stacks,' referring to the dark, tooth-like pinnacles of rock that break up the ridge line leading toward the parent peak.
- •To reach the summit, walkers must navigate the narrow and shattered crest of Mullach Fraoch-choire's north-east ridge, which offers some of the best easy scrambling in the Glen Shiel area.
- •The summit provides an excellent vantage point for surveying the remote interior of the Highlands, particularly the complex mass of Sgùrr nan Ceathreamhnan and the long waters of Loch Mullardoch to the north.
- •It is most commonly visited as part of a high-level circuit starting from the A87 near the Cluanie Inn, often bagged alongside the neighbouring Munro of Sgùrr nan Conbhairean.
- •The 'black stacks' of the ridge are aesthetically pleasing from a distance, but they tend to be significantly less charming when you are trying to negotiate them in a typical North-west Highland gale.
