About Meall Reamhar

Set within the rolling moorlands of Strathbraan, this rounded Perthshire summit offers a quiet escape into classic heather-clad terrain. While it lacks the drama of the higher Grampians, its broad back provides an excellent vantage point for surveying the entrance to the Sma’ Glen and the distant silhouettes of the Ben Lawers range.

Did You Know?

  • The name originates from the Gaelic 'Meall Reamhar', which translates literally as 'fat hill', referring to the bulky, rounded profile it presents when viewed from the surrounding glens.
  • The hill is part of the extensive estates between Dunkeld and Amulree, an area traditionally used for grouse shooting and sheep grazing, characterized by deep heather and occasional peat hags.
  • A clear day on the summit rewards walkers with a specific view of the Sma' Glen to the south, where the River Almond carves a narrow pass through the hills toward Crieff.
  • Given its broad, somewhat indistinct summit, it is the kind of peak where a GPS or a very keen eye for the highest tuft of heather is more useful than a compass for pinpointing the top.
