Did You Know?
- •The name Meall Mòr is Scottish Gaelic for 'big rounded hill' or 'large lump,' accurately describing the bulky, undulating profile this hill presents when viewed from the Great Glen.
- •The hill is located within the Abriachan Forest, which in 1998 became one of the first major community-owned woodlands in Scotland, rescued from commercial plantation to be managed for local biodiversity and recreation.
- •From the summit, walkers are rewarded with a specific view south-west toward the distinctive profile of Meall Fuar-mhonaidh, the highest point on the northern side of Loch Ness.
- •Its classification as a Hump (a hill with a prominence of at least 100 metres) sounds quite substantial, though its modest 407m altitude makes it more of a brisk afternoon leg-stretcher than a serious mountaineering undertaking.
