Did You Know?

  • The name is Gaelic, where 'Meall' refers to a rounded, lumpy hill and 'Mor' means big or great; despite its modest height, it is the most prominent point on the ridge overlooking Amulree.
  • From the summit, walkers can look directly down the length of Glen Quaich, a quiet valley known for its steep, winding road that connects Amulree to Kenmore.
  • The hill sits on the edge of the historic Braes of Taymouth, an area historically associated with the Breadalbane estate, which was once among the largest landholdings in the UK.
  • Those approaching from the high pass on the road from Amulree may find the 'Big Hill' title a little ambitious, as much of the elevation is already gained before leaving the car.
