Did You Know?
- •Sgùrr Mòr translates from Scottish Gaelic as "Big Peak," a name that reflects its status as the most prominent summit on the peninsula between Loch Morar and Loch Nevis.
- •Situated in one of the most road-remote parts of the mainland, the hill is most often accessed by boat to the settlement of Kylesmorar or via a long, demanding trek along the north shore of Loch Morar.
- •The summit provides a direct line of sight across the water to the massive Coire Dhorrcail on Ladhar Bheinn, the highest mountain in the neighbouring Knoydart peninsula.
- •To the west, the view extends across the Sound of Sleat to the distinctive silhouettes of the Cuillin on the Isle of Skye.
- •Despite its name meaning 'Big Peak', it is significantly smaller than its more famous namesakes in the Fannichs or Glen Dessarry, though it feels plenty large enough for anyone approaching it on foot from the road end at Bracorina.
