About Carn Dearg
Rising above the hamlet of Tomcrasky in Glen Moriston, this 681-metre Tump offers a quieter alternative to the neighbouring Munros. The terrain is typical West Highland moorland, often boggy underfoot but providing a clear vantage point over the winding River Moriston and the forested slopes of the Dundreggan estate below.

Did You Know?
- •The name is derived from the Scottish Gaelic 'Càrn Dearg', meaning 'Red Cairn', likely a reference to the weathered granite or the iron-rich soil found across its slopes.
- •The hill overlooks the Dundreggan estate, which is currently the site of a major rewilding project by the charity Trees for Life, aimed at restoring the ancient Caledonian pine forest.
- •From the summit, the view south is dominated by the sprawling Loch Cluanie, while to the west, the sharp ridges of A' Chràlaig and Mullach Fraoch-choire are clearly visible.
- •You are far more likely to share the summit with a red deer than another walker, as most visitors to the area are drawn away by the more famous peaks further west along the A87.
