About Creag Ghorm

Overlooking the village of Glenachulish, this steep-sided Tump forms the northern spur of the magnificent Beinn a' Bheithir horseshoe. Rising through dense forestry into rugged, heathery slopes, its summit offers a sharp perspective on the Pap of Glencoe and the narrows of Loch Leven immediately below.

Did You Know?

  • The name Creag Ghorm translates from Scottish Gaelic as "Blue Crag," a description likely inspired by the dark, shadowy hue of its rocky outcrops when seen from the glen below.
  • Though classified as a Tump, most walkers encounter this peak as the first significant pull on the steep ascent from Glenachulish toward the higher Munro peaks of Sgorr Dhearg and Sgorr Dhonuill.
  • The summit provides an exceptional vantage point for observing the Ballachulish Narrows, where Loch Leven meets Loch Linnhe, framed by the sharp profile of Sgòrr nam Fiannaidh across the water.
  • The lower northern slopes are dominated by the Glenachulish Forest, where a network of mountain bike trails and forestry tracks provides a labyrinthine start to the climb.
