Yr Orsedd

Tucked above Llanfairfechan, Yr Orsedd offers a sophisticated blend of prehistoric archaeology and wind-blasted grass. It’s a modest height, but what it lacks in sheer verticality, it makes up for in Bronze Age vibes and excellent views of the Menai Strait's bypass.

• •The hill is surrounded by an incredible density of scheduled monuments, including prehistoric cairns and stone circles. Walking here is essentially an accidental archaeology degree without the student debt.
• •It sits at the northern fringe of the Carneddau range, acting as a gentle buffer between the coastal civilization below and the truly jagged bits of Snowdonia further south.
• •The path crossing its skirts follows an ancient route often attributed to the Romans, though it was likely a prehistoric 'superhighway' long before sandals ever hit the Welsh soil.
• •On a clear day, the summit provides a front-row seat to the Great Orme and Anglesey. On a typical day, it provides a front-row seat to the inside of a very damp cloud.
