About Beinn Bhreac

Tucked away south of the River Dochart near Auchlyne, this "Speckled Hill" provides a rugged, pathless ascent through classic Breadalbane terrain. While overshadowed by the nearby Munros of Meall Glas and Sgiath Chuil, its summit offers a superior, unobstructed perspective of the Crianlarich peaks and the winding strath below.

Did You Know?

  • The name Beinn Bhreac translates from Scottish Gaelic as the "Speckled Hill." This refers to the mottled appearance of its slopes, where a mosaic of dark heather and grey rock outcrops breaks through the moorland grass.
  • The summit provides an exceptional profile of the Crianlarich twins, Ben More and Stob Binnein, which dominate the southern horizon across the deep trench of Glen Dochart.
  • Because it is classified as a Tump and sits slightly apart from the main ridge line of its higher neighbours, it offers a degree of solitude rarely found on the popular Munros to the west.
  • Standing just over two metres short of the 800m mark, it is perfectly sized to offer a significant physical challenge without the inconvenience of attracting anyone actually looking to tick off a major list.
