About Ballykilageer Hill
This southern Wicklow peak rises to 426 metres, offering a rugged, less-frequented experience than the higher mountains to the north. Its Tump status draws occasional baggers to its summit, which provides a vantage point over the undulating borderlands where the Wicklow hills finally begin to subside toward County Wexford.

Did You Know?
- •The name Ballykilageer is derived from the Irish Baile Chill na nGadhar, meaning 'townland of the church of the hounds,' a name that suggests the site may have once been associated with an early ecclesiastical settlement or hunting grounds.
- •The summit offers a clear, specific view of the sprawling bulk of Croghan Mountain to the east, as well as the deep, wooded valleys that characterize the southern edge of the Wicklow range.
- •The hill is significantly more secluded than the peaks further north, making it a reliable choice for walkers looking to avoid the crowds that frequent the popular trails around Glendalough.
- •Despite the name, a modern visitor is far more likely to be greeted by the indifferent stare of a mountain sheep than a pack of hounds or any ecclesiastical remains.
